WHAT IS A BMU (BUILDING MAINTENANCE UNIT)

BMU IS A SHORT NAME OF BUILDING MAINTENANCE UNIT, WE CAN ALSO CALL IT : PERMANENTLY INSTALLED ACCESS EQUIPMENT OF HIGHRISE BUILDING.

A Building Maintenance Unit (BMU), installed on a twin track traversing system on the roof, is an automatic, remote-controlled mechanical device. It adopts multilayer drum hoist, using 4 pcs of galvanized steel wire ropes with conductors suspended with a aluminum cradle. The cradle of BMU can accommodate two workers and some materials, travelling along the track to cover the required areas of façade for the glass washers or maintenance worker to maintain or clean the covered surfaces.

Building Maintenance Units (BMU) are required on the more complicated building designs, and provide a sophisticated façade access solution. They are usually mounted permanently at roof level, and provide full lateral, horizontal and vertical movement of the cradle, in order to access all surfaces of a building.
The system is designed for scheduled façade maintenance e.g. window washing & external cleaning, and unscheduled maintenance e.g. replacement of glass/façade panels and other repairs.
